I hope you are well as we usher in the first weekend of the year 2023.

IEBC on Thursday conducted byelections in four areas Elgeyo Marakwet, Kandara, Shella ward, and Garissa Township following the appointments of Kipchumba Murkomen as the Transport CS, Alice Wahome at the Ministry of Water and Aden Duale at the ministry of defense in September 2022.

The by-elections were characterized by low voter turnout while other areas were marred with unverified reports of voter bribery although no major incidents were reported.

As of Thursday night, IEBC issued an update confirming that vote counting had kicked off after the voting in the areas was officially closed.

With voters in the region anticipating the by-election results, IEBC has already issued results confirming Barrow Dekow Mohamed of UDA party as the newly elected MP after beating his competitors Nassir Dolal of UDM party and NARC Kenya’s Ibrahim Malow.

Nassir Dolal of UDM party finished second after garnering 8,158 votes, NARC Kenya’s Ibrahim Malow finished third with 840 votes whereas the leading candidate had a total of 11,572 votes.

Yesterday, Elgeyo Market, Garissa Township, And Kandara Constituency Went Back to the ballots where they elected their representatives after area leaders were appointed by president William Ruto as his cabinet secretaries.

However, the ruling UDA party has once again emerged victorious after it won three major seats.
