In a statement issued by the head of state, Uhuru Kenyatta, who joined Kenyans in mourning, he warned drivers against attempting to cross flooded rivers, especially during the rainy season.

Those who survived the ill-fated bus tragedy at River Enziu in Kitui County have disclosed the amount of money travelers paid to the driver of the bus before boarding it. According to the survivors, they paid the bus driver Sh50 each to cross the flooded river.
Before the bus arrived at the river from Mwingi carrying choir members, stranded travelers had camped at the river bank hoping that the water levels would subside. It emerged that the driver opted to cross the dangerous bridge after the members of the catholic choir pressured him.
