The war of words between the two frontrunners of next year’s presidential elections, Deputy President William Ruto and ODM supremo Raila Odinga, seems to be escalating further even as the political climate in the country gets dire with each passing day.
Saturday’s remarks by Raila likening Ruto to a ‘fisi’ revived the debate on the source of DP’s wealth as the former PM warned he would jail all corrupt leaders if elected president in 2022.
The ODM chief asked Kenyans to interrogate the source of “free” funds being donated by political leaders while claiming that they have been stealing from public coffers and giving the money as the supposed donations during empowerment forums.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Dr. Ruto argued that Raila’s statements were hypocritical, insisting that Odinga and other leaders in opposition were agents of corruption themselves.
While referring to the 2007 General Election where he campaigned for Raila when he ran for the presidency against President Mwai Kibaki, DP told the former PM to stop being jealous when he gives donations to churches and ordinary Kenyans yet he was a beneficiary of his generosity.
Do you think Raila’s remarks are warranted or is he being hypocritical? Is Ruto right in saying Raila was an agent of corruption himself?
