Good morning fellow Kenyans,
As we come to the end of the week, controversy is brewing over the conflicting outcomes of some of the COVID-19 tests carried out in various labs across the country.
On Thursday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe warned Kenyans not to visit laboratories that have been on the spot over contradictory results, most notably, Lancet Kenya.
This was brought into light two weeks ago by Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo who lodged a complaint with the health ministry and the parliamentary health committee after tests carried out on his late mother’s body Margaret Njomo returned different results.
Lancet which did the first test reported that she was COVID-19 positive.
However, a repeat test done on the request of the family at the Nairobi Hospital and the national influenza center returned negative results.
The total of COVID-19 infections in the country as of 15th July stands at 11,673 with the cumulative samples tested since March being 230,096.
This includes the tests carried out by private laboratories such as Lancet, which charges between KSh 8,000 and KSh 10,000 per test.
This now begs the question, just how many of these cases are indeed positive?
