The World of football is prone to throwing up surprises and unexpected events. Sometimes, events evolve in a complete contrary to the order of things or at-least how we perceive they should.
Here, we look at football managers who had underwhelming playing careers but went on to become world class managers.
Unai Emery
The Spaniard was not a regular in the top flight but instead spent most of his playing days as a left footed winger in Spains Segunda division.
He however worked his way up the managerial ranks to become a world class manager who won three consecutive European titles and earned managerial stints at PSG and Arsenal.
Things may not have worked well at his last club but that does not take away his previous successes as a manager.
Jose Mourinho
Mourinho never even made it as a professional footballer. The Portuguese learnt his trade working as a translator for Barcelona in the late 90s.
He always had a special understanding for football and announced his entry into the World Class managers bracket by winning the Champions League with FC Porto in 2004.
He has gone on to win league titles with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan with whom he won the Champions League with again in 2010.
Gary Neville
So lets have a change of flow and go with a brilliant player who went on to become a complete disaster of a manager.
Neville won everything with Manchester United including the Champions League twice but had a 6 month spell with Valencia as manager where he was brutally exposed.
He has the lowest winning margin of all managers in the history of the club and was sacked after a 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Barcelona.
