The holiest month in the Muslim calendar is here with us. It is that time of the year when our brothers fast during daylight hours and congregate for prayers and sharing meals in the evening.
Unfortunately, Muslims around the world will observe this year’s Ramadan under lockdown and tight restrictions due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, just like their Christian brethren celebrated Easter.
The Kenya government declined to extend the curfew hours from 7 PM to 10 PM to allow Muslims to break the fast together. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe cited an incident in Eastleigh where a Muslim cleric succumbed to COVID-19. The cleric had allegedly defied government directives and visited several homes to preach.
We urge the Muslim community to dedicate a few hours every day to pray for this country. The Bible says that God will listen to his children if they call him by his name, I am sure there is a version of this statement in the Quran.
We are facing so many tragedies concurrently. First, it was the desert locusts which led to the firing of Mwangi Kiunjuri. COVID-19 has paralysed the country and recently, at least 17 people have lost their lives to flash floods.
Here are the stories making headlines:
Anxiety Ahead of Uhuru’s Address
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make an announcement on Friday, April 24, which may spell doom on Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi residents, after he directed the National Command Centre on the Coronavirus Pandemic to immediately review the enforcement of Covid-19 safety measures in the three counties.
The review directive was announced by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i through his social media pages on Wednesday, April 22, as the Covid-19 cases keep soaring the three regions, dubbed hotspots, alongside Nairobi County.
How Ruto is Plotting to Sink Jubilee Party
Deputy President William Ruto may have finally decided to slowly puncture Jubilee while he nurses a fallback party.
The DP’s men confronting his boss Uhuru Kenyatta reveals he has decided to throw away the baby with the bathwater. The defiance points to a man ready to jump ship and the time is now.. He will not wait to be shuffled out.
Unleashing his allies to dare Uhuru directly shows the die is cast. Yet he won’t resign and expose himself as an immobile target. He will stay put to sink Jubilee first.
Uhuru Directs His Guns at Nairobi’s Land Grabbers
President Uhuru Kenyatta is reclaiming over 2,700 acres of public land illegally allocated to private developers within Nairobi.
On Wednesday, lands officials repossessed some 1,600 acres in Ruai associated with a senior government official.
As with Uhuru’s anti-graft fight aimed at securing his legacy, tens of government officials and beneficiaries of the illegal allocations could be arrested and prosecuted.
Mombasa County is experiencing a surge of COVID-19 cases. On Thursday, the county reported 12 new cases, more than double the five which were recorded in Nairobi. The county has now confirmed 79 cases. Do you think President Uhuru Kenyatta should order for a total lockdown in Mombasa to curb the spread of the virus?
