Kenya Films and Classification Board Chairman Ezekiel Mutua has hit out at Mejja and Femi One over their new song ‘Utawezana’.
In a long facebook post,Mutua termed the song as ‘crap’ saying that content lacks rigor and defies commo decency adding that the musicians should be blacklisted.
“Our artistes must not glorify immorality in the guise of creativity. The Okonkwo utawezana nonsense is a shallow, bizarre sexual perversion.That content lacks rigor and defies common decency,”he wrote.
“There’s absolutely nothing creative there. That lady would be ashamed to sing such crap before her mother. While comic relief is an integral part of art, it doesn’t have to be dirty or sexualized to be entertaining,”.
He went on to say that artistes who produce raunchy music their song will not only be banned but they will also be blacklisted.
“The Board will blacklist these kinds of perverts and share their names with the relevant ministries and Government agencies to ensure that they are never engaged by Government,”.
“The Board will take stern measures against artistes who misuse digital technology to promote immorality by creating, broadcasting, distributing or exhibiting immorality and unpalatable content. Such people should not be considered as artistes but enemies of society and a threat to the well being of our children. They should not benefit from any Government funds,”he said.
He further blamed the media houses for promoting and glorifying such dirty content.
“Right now kids are at home and have access to technology as an essential tool for their studies. It’s wrong to have content that can ruin their morals being circulated with wanton abandon,”he wrote.
“It’s worse when mainstream media begins to glorify such dirty content by giving the creators airtime on TV or Radio”.
The moral cop went o to encourage artists to produce inspirational music at this time when the nation is facing COVID -19 pandemic.
“At a time of a national crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic, our artistes should focus on creating content that inspires hope and helps society to deal with the current challenges,”he said.
