‘Racism Has Won’, Chelsea Defender Claims After His Case Ends In Vain

Chelsea and Germany defender Antonio Rudiger says that racism won after no evidence was found to support his claims of abuse during the Blues 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last year.

Play was momentarily stopped after the German defender alerted the referee that he had monkey noises during the second half of the hotly contested match.

On 6 January, Spurs said they and police had “exhausted” all lines of inquiry but could not “corroborate or contradict” the allegation.

“I’ll always raise my voice – but in relation to this, I’m alone. Racism has won. The offenders can always come back to the stadium, which shows these people have won. It’s a disaster. I became a father last Thursday and you start thinking society hasn’t come far enough in fighting racism, so my kids will probably suffer as well. If nothing changes, if kids don’t get good education and parenting, we’ll lose,” Rudiger said.

Rudiger is just one of many racial abuse cases that have gone unresolved in the football scene. Last week, an FC Porto player walked off the pitch after being subjected to racial abuse during a top-flight Portuguese League match.

Arsenal striker Pierre Emerick Aubameynag also had a banana thrown at him last season while Raheem Sterling was also subjected to the same nonsense during a league tie with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
