An ODM MP found himself on the wrong during the Narok BBI rally.
Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala was booed by women leaders who were present at the meeting.
Led by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, the female politicians were irked by the sentiments expressed by Wanjala.
The legislator claimed that male governors should not be forced to choose a female deputy.
Wanjala reiterated that the political decision should not be treated as a marriage.
He commented that the Constitution was to be blamed for the wrangles witnessed over gender rule.
“Hii Katiba ya 2010 inatusumbua juu ya populism watu wanaletanga wakati kazi inafanywa(The 2010 constitution is our worry due to populism people bring when work is being conducted),” remarked the MP.
The vocal politician asserted that he and a group of other leaders were advised not to legislate matters dealing with gender.
The Budalangi MP reiterated that according to the Europeans, Africans were naive in allowing to be controlled by the foreigners.
“Tulienda benchmarking Germany. Wakatuambia nyinyi Africa sijui muko namna gani. Saa zingine nyinyi munalazimishwa vitu na wazungu na wazungu wenyewe hawazifanyi. Walisema mambo ya gender issues hazipelekwi kwenye siasa. Huewezi lazimisha mwanaume akitaka kuwa gavana eti lazima bibi akue nyuma yake. Hii si ndoa(We went for benchmarking in Germany. We were told they were puzzled by how we behave as Africa. At times were are naive in being forced to do things by the Europeans that they themselves don’t do. They stated that gender issues are nor articulated in a political setting in a democratic country. You can’t force a man who wants to be a governor to have the support of his wife. This is not a marriage),” articulated Wanjala.
Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege condemned the remarks by the ‘Chungwa’ party member.
Sabina pronounced that women were important people in society.
“Mimi kama mama nataka kuambia Wanjala si wakatai wakuomba kura. Wakati wote kutoka juu na chini bado mama ni wa muhimu(As a woman, I want to tell Wanjala that it is not during political campaigns that women are important. From top to bottom women are important),” uttered the Woman Rep.
Wanjala became the second politician to be booed during the BBI campaign gatherings.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was heckled at almost kicked out during the Kitui gathering.
Ngilu was among the leaders who were pushing for his ouster.
According to the Kitui county boss, Kuria had abused President Uhuru Kenyatta.
