An amateur footballer in France has been slapped with a five-year ban for biting an opponents’ penis after a league match in the French lower divisions.

Trouble ensued during a league match between Terville and Soetrich last November. According to reports, a player from each side started fighting before a third player joined in to try and separate them, the Soetrich player involved in the scuffle reacted by biting the mediator’s penis.

‘The events took place after the match, in the stadium car park. There was an altercation, an escalation and things got worse. The disciplinary committee had called an expert witness before deciding to suspend the Soetrich player for five years,” said Emmanuel Saling of the Mosellan football district, adding that the blame was ‘more or less shared’. The injured player got a five-month ban.

“It’s quite rare to have sanctions of several years, there are less than 10 per year. The case was a bit saucy, but … there must have been some nasty tension, so the smiles on the disciplinary committee quickly faded,” Saling added.

Terville, were deducted two points and 200 euros for failing to ensure safety around the stadium.
