Video: FC Porto Forward Walks Off The Pitch After Racial Abuse From Fans

Racism in football has grown rampant in the past few years. Fans have been subjecting opposition players to racist hurls and no solution has been found yet to eliminate the vice completely.

On Sunday, the latest sign of this growing epidemic presented itself in the Portuguese Primera Liga. FC Porto was away facing Vitoria Guimaraes and Mali forward Moussa Marega had just put FC Porto ahead on the hour mark.

Nine minutes later, the Mali International walked off the pitch claiming he was racially abused. His teammates and opposing players tried to stop him from leaving the pitch but he was having none of it.

Marega who is 28 pointed the thumbs down to the fans as he walked off and also raised his middle finger.  In an Instagram post, Marega said the home supporters “who come to the stadium to make racist screams” were “idiots”.

“We are a family regardless of nationality, skin colour, hair color. We are human, we deserve respect. What happened here is unfortunate,” Porto boss Sergio Conceicao said.

Maregas incident is the latest in a string of racist hurls directed to black players across Europe. Last season, a fan was banned from accessing Stamford Bridge after he was captured by cameras calling Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling a black cunt.

Earlier in the season, Arsenal striker had a banana skin thrown at him after he opened the scoring in the North London derbt=y clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
