Strange Things Kenyans Did to Witness Moi’s Burial

Today is the final journey of Kenya’s second President the late Daniel Arap Moi.

Kenyans have joined his family to give him a befitting send-off, many said they traveled from various parts, some as far as 300 kilometers to attend the burial of Kenya’s second and longest-serving Head of State who ruled from 1978 to 2002, with an iron fist.

Here are some of the unusual things Kenyans did to witness Moi’s burial.

Cycling for over 200km

Nathan Ambuti, 76, cycled from Butere Kakamega County to Kabarak in Nakuru . Dressed in a vintage KANU-flag tie and pinstripe suit, Ambuti embarked on the journey that took four days.

On the bicycle were different messages inscribed in white ink.

After cycling for over 200Km, he was at first denied access but later to Moi’s Kabarak granted access to Moi’s residence in Kabarak.

Arriving early 

The morning light is not out yet thousands of Kenyans already at the late President Moi’s home in Kabarak ready for the funeral.

Some members of the public arrived at Kabarak University from as early as midnight, others 3 AM  midnight to give the second president of Kenya a befitting send-off.

 

Lining up long hours for Snacks

Thousands of mourners started arriving at the Kabarak University as early as am Wednesday for the burial of former President Daniel Arap Moi.But they had to wait until 4 am for the gates to be opened. Each mourner was given half a loaf of bread, a soda, water and the funeral program on entry.

Moi died on the 4th of February 2020 at Nairobi Hospital.
