Matatu Driver put on Life Support after Accident with Raphael Tuju

Bernad Muya, a driver of a public service vehicle involved in an accident on Wednesday morning was on life support machines.

According to a police report, Muya became unconscious after suffering from serious injuries.

A total of 18 people, who were on board three different vehicles were involved in the early morning accident that occurred along the Nairobi- Nakuru highway.

Apart from Muya, five other victims suffered serious injuries, among them Jubilee party Secretary-general Raphael Tuju.

The injured people were rushed toKijabe Mission hospital where 12 of them who suffered minor injuries have been discharged.

Raphael Tuju was airlifted to the Kijabe Mission Hospital.

The Secretary-General cum Cabinet secretary suffered serious chest and abdominal injuries in the 6.45 am accident.

 

Tuju was on his way to Kabarnet gardens to attend the burial of the late Retired President Daniel Moi.

Sports Cabinet Secretary, who was also headed to Kabarnet stopped on the highway to check on the victims after learning of the accident.

After investigations, the following report was released by police officers describing events that led to the accident.

“It happened that motor vehicle reg number kCA 235W was being driven from Naivasha towards Nairobi general direction and upon reaching at the location of the accident it slowed down to allow another vehicle which was ahead of it to branch to a feeder road on the right side of the road as you face Nairobi direction and that’s when it was hit on the rear right side by motor vehicle reg number KCH 051j, Toyota matatu. As the matatu was trying to avoid hitting the said vehicle, it swerved to the other traffic lane thereby colliding head-on with the motor vehicle reg number KCH504t, Toyota Prado, which was having hon. Raphael Tuju, secretary-general of jubilee party, on board.” read part of the statement.
