Moi’s Body Taken Back to Lee Funeral Home

The body of the Late Retired President Daniel Moi was on Saturday evening taken back to Lee Funeral Home.

The body which had been laid at Parliament building for viewing was escorted by a contingent of military officers to the funeral home for preservation, thus marking the end of public viewing on Saturday.

The body is expected to be taken back to the Parliament building on Sunday morning where members of the public will continue with the viewing exercise.

The viewing of the body is set for three days and will end on Monday.

The Funeral Service of the late Moi will be held on Tuesday at Nyayo stadium where President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the country in celebrating the life of his political father.

The late Moi will be buried on Wednesday at his Kabarak home beside his wife’s grave, Lena Moi, in accordance with his wish.

Earlier in the day, President Uhuru, his deputy William Ruto, Speakers of National and Senate Assemblies, Governors, Senators and MPs led Kenyans in the viewing of the late Moi’s body.

ODM leader Raila Odinga was an absentee due to official commitments. President Uhuru sent Raila to represent him at AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Moi passed on at Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday aged 95 after a long battle with an undisclosed illness.

He served Kenyans as a president for 24 years after he took over from the late Jomo Kenyatta who died in 1978.

The late Moi had served as Kenyatta’s Vice President for over 10 years.
