Manchester United midfielder has explained the reason fans have nicknamed his pastor Fred with his form for the Red Devils improving with each passing game.
The Brazilian managed to shake off his early struggles at Old Trafford to become a key player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges this season. In the absence of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, the 26-year old has been United’s best midfielder in this campaign.
He has slowly won the fans who voted him the club’s best player in January after putting in a good show at the start of the year.
Fred has been nicknamed Pastor Fred, a name whose source has not been clear. When asked the reason fans have nicknamed him Pastor, the former Shaktar Donetsk man says his religious posts on social media could be the reason United faithful has labeled him a pastor.
“I think maybe it’s because I’m quite religious. I like to talk about my religion on social media. I’m someone who is very grateful to God for everything he’s done for me,” he said.
The midfielder loves his nickname and hopes it sticks forever.
“I always show this gratitude on social media, everyone sees it and I’ve been given this nickname, Pastor Fred. I think it’s cool and long may it continue,” he said.
