The former President reportedly wished to be buried next to his ex-wife, Lena Moi, ‘when the time comes’.

Lena Moi died in 2004 and was buried in the former president’s homestead in Kabarak.

The two had separated in 1974 and their divorce finalised in 1979 after a 29-year marriage. They got married in 1950 at the African Inland church in Eldama Ravine after he reportedly paid two heifers, one ox, and four sheep to Lena’s family as dowry.

A photo taken in October 1967 at the State House captures the first three first ladies, Lena, Mama Ngina and Lucy Kibaki, at one place.

Helena, who later became Lena Moi, was the mother of Baringo senator Gideon and Jonathan Kipkemboi Moi who passed on in 2019.

Moi’s wish to be buried next to her is probably an indication that the two they could have reconciled.
