What Senator Moi Said Following His Father’s Death

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Tuesday morning issued a statement on behalf of his family regarding the passing on of the Retired President Daniel Torotich arap Moi.

Speaking while at Nairobi Hospital, the last born son to the former president revealed the exact date the late Moi died and expressed his gratitude to Kenyans for the unwavering love they showed following the breaking of the sad news.

“I take this opportunity to tell my fellow Kenyans Mzee passed on this morning at 5:20 AM. He passed on peacefully and as a family, we have accepted. We are honored by the gratitude that has been given by Kenyans with praise and condolences given to the family,” said Moi.

Senator Moi was accompanied by his wife Zainab Moi, Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiangí, Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, chief of defense forces Samson Mwathethe among other key dignitaries.

After the issuance of the statement, the body of the late Moi was driven to Lee Funeral home under tight security.

The statement comes at a time when President Uhuru directed that all flags be flown half-mast.

President Uhuru lauded the late Moi as a key figure who contributed immensely to the struggle of independence of the country Kenya.

“AS A LEADING FIGURE in the Struggle for Kenya’s Independence, and an ardent Pan-Africanist; the Late Mzee Moi’s Legacy undoubtedly positions him as one of Africa’s Greatest, a Man who made his Nation and the Continent immeasurably better.

“Following the sudden death of the First President of the Republic of Kenya, the Late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the Late Mzee Moi stepped into apex leadership in 1978 and immediately brought calm and confidence to a Nation reeling in shock, following the unexpected death of the Head of State,” wrote Uhuru in his statement.
