Kenya U20 Keeper Delights in Club Debut

Wazito FC keeper Bixente Otieno is delighted after making his debut for the club on Sunday in the one-all draw against Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.

The Kenya U20 custodian was handed his appearance for the club against Nicholas Muyoti’s side and he did well pulling a number of good saves as the KPL side ended its seven-match losing streak with a draw against the title contenders.

Otieno, who is a highly rated custodian was elated with his first chance for the club and has revealed that his coach Stewart Hall heading into the game which he says gave him confidence against a Homeboyz forward led by former Kenyan international Allan Wanga.

“First of all, I want to thank Coach Hall for the opportunity. It’s something I have been looking forward to all season and when he informed me that I would start I was really excited. He encouraged and gave me confidence heading into the game and I think that made me calmer on the pitch,” he said.

The former Kenya U17 keeper was also full of praise for his teammates who he says encouraged him during the clash.

“They really encouraged me before and during the game. They were very supportive and that made everything easier. As a keeper communication is key and talking to my teammates especially my defenders ensured that we played well at the back. I wasn’t fazed,” he added.

Otieno will be hoping to earn another start against Western Stima on Saturday at Narok County Stadium.
