Ex-MP Fred Gumo, Akasha brothers and the mystery of Moi’s stolen car

In 2012, Ex-Member of Parliament Fred Gumo was found with a top-of-the-range vehicle that was stolen from retired President the late Daniel Moi.

On his side, Mr Gumo who at the time was serving as the Minister Local Gquickly linked the ownership of the car to Mr Hassan Yusuf Abdalla kin to the controversial Akasha family.

Mr Gumo told the police that he had bought the car from Mr Abdalla who was a businessman based in Mombasa.

“I traded in my vehicle with a Mombasa businessman to get this car. However, I rarely use it because I never received all the documents,” Mr Gumo then said.

The suspect was later arraigned in court over the theft of the car and was released on a Sh500,000 cash bail.

The car went missing in 2008 from the CMC Industrial Area, Nairobi, workshop where it had been taken for repairs after it was involved in an accident along the Nairobi- Nakuru highway.

According to CMC- the car had a fake registration number KBQ 455S but the records indicated that it was a KBJ 124D.
