In the 2017 General Elections, Waititu floored the then incumbent Governor Kabogo by garnering 716,336 votes against 192,045.

In a tweet just minutes after Governor Waititu’s impeachment, Kabogo stated that “choices had consequences.”

The Governor has since been charged with abuse of office, gross misconduct and violation of the Kenyan Constitution, County Government Act and the Procurement & Disposal Act.

Wednesday,  January 29, a majority of Senators voted out the Governor after hearing a petition filed by the Kiambu County Assembly Speaker.

Waititu was impeached by the County Assembly on December 19 in a move that would be subjected to a quorum debate and whether there were enough MCAs to validate an impeachment process.

A section of senators including Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen questioned the process and the numbers at the Kiambu County Assembly that voted for an impeachment of the Governor.

However, a majority of the senators would still vote against Waititu despite giving an emotional defence against the impeachment grounds.
