Breaking: Harambee Stars Goalkeeper Joins Zambian Giants

Harambee Stars goalkeeper, Ian Otieno has joined Zambian giants Zesco United from Red Arrows, Opera News can report.

The shot-stopper was expected to join Zesco’s rivals Zanaco but the proposed transfer failed through after they failed to agree on a fee, and Zesco, who were equally in the market for a keeper have completed a swoop for the custodian.

At Zesco, he is expected to take the place of veteran skipper Jacob Banda who has been out of form in recent months with the Ndola based team struggling both on domestic and continental championships.

“I can confirm that Ian has signed a two-year deal with Zesco, it’s a done deal. The offer from Zesco was good and he could not turn it down. They believe in him and he is looking forward to making his debut for the team,” one of the player’s representatives told Opera News in an exclusive interview.

An alumnus of Chavakali high school, Otieno started out at Posta Rangers immediately he cleared his secondary school education. After a couple of seasons with the Mail-men, he moved to AFC Leopards for two seasons before ditching Ingwe at the end of the 2017 season.

He was initially set to join Sofapaka after reaching an agreement with Batoto Ba Mungu but he was invited for trials in Zambia with Red Arrows where he impressed and earned himself a two year deal with the Zambian side alongside his former Ingwe teammate Andrew Tololwa.

At Zesco he will link up with two of his national teammates. They are Jesse Were and David Owino. Anthony Akumu recently left the club for South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
