ODM Senator Reaveals Embarrassing Details of Ongoing Waititu’s Impeachment Motion

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina on Tuesday revealed worrying details of Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s Impeachment motion that was discussed before the Senate Assembly.

Taking to social media to express his reservation on a particular abnormally he noticed at the Assembly, the ODM Senator took a swipe at a section of Senators insinuating that they were a big let down.

“We sure do have a long way to go! If you Compare the impeachment of Donald Trump by the USA Senate and that of Governor Waititu it’s like night & day!

“In Kenyan Senate, we are walking around talking as the Assembly is making its case! While the USA senate the Senators maintain silence,” tweeted the Senator.

The sentiments came at a time when the impeachment motion filed against the Governor was still ongoing on the floor of the Senate Assembly.

Waititu was impeached on December 19th after 63 MCAs reportedly voted in favour of the Governor’s ouster.

However, the defiant governor dismissed the impeachment saying the requisite quorum for impeachment was not met.

Waititu argues that only 57 MCAs were present during the impeachment motion adding that the ouster was illegal and unprocedural.

According to Lawyer Dastan Omari, failure by the Kiambu MCAs to meet the required quorum, if proved so, will invalidate the impeachment process since the law requires strict adherence to the law.

Omari, who spoke to Citizen Tv, faulted the Kiambu County Assembly for breaching the due process required for impeaching a governor.

He added that the MCAs might have ignored the due process in their bid to shift blame for their failures.
