Babu Owino’s 2020 Resolution That The Court Honoured While Releasing Him

On Dec 27, 2019, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino made a social media post, declaring his resolutions for 2020.

According to the controversial legislator, in the new year, he would strive to avoid all forms of alcoholic drinks, except local brew chang’aa.

Going by his latest legal predicament, where he was arrested for shooting a DJ in the neck while intoxicated, the MP clearly backslid on his alcohol abstinence decision, but the terms set by the court while releasing him from custody on Monday could help get the youthful politician back on track.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi ordered the parliamentarian to desist from indulging in alcoholic substances, while in public places, an order that is set to impact heavily on the highly social MP.

In his 2019 end of year post, Babu had expressed uncertainty in his ability to honour his resolution, citing the friendships and bonds created out of social drinking sprees.

According to the court’s directive, the legislator, who was caught on camera indulging in banned Shisha during the shooting incident, was also barred from partaking any other form of narcotics whilst in public.

Other shocking terms imposed as conditions for his release were the payment of a Ksh10 million bond, which would cater to the treatment of the victim, one DJ Evolve until he recuperated fully.

At the time of Babu’s release, Evolve, whose real name is Felix Orinda, was still in critical condition, with his family reporting that he was paralysed and mortified after the ordeal.

MP Babu was charged with attempted murder, and if found guilty, risks life imprisonment.
