Tottenham Hotspurs are reportedly closing in on PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch winger, Steven Bergwijn according to reports in the Netherlands.
The speedster had on the summer been linked with a move to Manchester United but the Red Devils failed to woo the 22-year old to Old Trafford as they were reportedly not convinced that he was ready for the big move.
With Christian Eriksen heading out of the club and Harry Kane out for a long period, Mourinho has been desperate to bring onboard new faces and has already roped in Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal.
He admitted after Saturday one-all draw in the FA Cup fourth round against Southampton that his team lacks options upfront noting that his forwards got tired in the closing stages of the game and could not kill off the game.
“We had big chances in the first half, didn’t score, scored in the second half and after that, we had the space to kill the game, but we don’t have the fresh legs to do it. Giovani, Lucas, Sonny – the last 15 minutes were difficult for them,” he said.
Steven’s arrival will add speed and creativity in Spurs’ attack that has been lacking the cutting edge this season. At 22, he is value for money as many believe his best years are still ahead of him.
