M-Pesa Hit by Outage as Customers Experience Glitches in Transactions

Telecommunication giants Safaricom-owned mobile money service M-Pesa has been hit by an outage.

Customers making transactions on Thursday experienced glitches.

Kenyans have taken to social media to share some of the glitches they are experiencing.

A twitter user by the name Kiprotich has narrated how he went to a petrol station to refill his car, expecting to pay via M-Pesa only for him to realize that it was not functioning.

Some other Kenyans still expressed their disappointment in the service.

This is however not the first time M-Pesa is experiencing the glitches.

In December 2018, M-Pesa was unavailable due to hitches affecting its database, an issue that was confirmed by the telecommunications firm.

The same was experienced in 2011, with Safaricom apologizing to its customers later.

By the time of publishing this article, Safaricom had not yet issued any statement on the glitches being witnessed today.

It is thus unknown how long the glitches will last.
