Nairobi Driver Arrested After Attempting to Block VIP Convoy

A motorist in Nairobi found himself in hot soup on Wednesday, after his attempt to break protocol, by blocking a VIP convoy along Langáta Road, backfired.

In a viral Twitter video, the driver, identified as one Jabba, is seen defying an order by police officers to move from his rightful lane, to give way to the convoy of four posh vehicles.

Other motorists are also heard ranting over the increased audacity by government officials on Kenyan roads, wondering why they think that they have more urgent things to do than the ordinary taxpayer.

According to activist Boniface Mwangi, who is notorious for such defiant stunts, the daring man was arrested by police in Lang’ata and taken to the Kibera Law Courts.

”It was a convoy of four cars on the wrong side, one officer remained and called Langata Police to arrest him. We are now in Kibera Law Courts,” Mwangi said.

He further revealed that the charges registered against Jobba were completely unrelated to the Wednesday morning incident.

” He was driving on Langata Road when he encountered a motorcade on the wrong side of the road. He obeyed the law and stayed on his lane. @NPSOfficial_KE are charging him with drunk driving,” the former politician added.

On Tuesday, the photojournalist hit the headlines after refusing to make way for a government convoy, comprised of four vehicles, on the same route.

He called upon Kenyans to fight against such acts of impunity, noting that the use of wrong lanes was only allowed during emergencies.

” I block anyone on the wrong side, the law is clear on the use of sirens, it doesn’t say “clearing traffic” EMERGENCY ONLY!” Mwangi ranted on Tuesday.
