Governor Sonko made the nomination in order to avert a looming crisis at City Hall after he was barred from accessing his office over corruption charges.

The Governor has been out of office together with his Kiambu and Samburu counterparts Ferdinand Waititu and Moses Lenolkulal.

He has since denied all te charges and is out on a Ksh 15 million cash bail.
