Boni Khalwale in Mourning!

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Tuesday evening regretted the untimely demise of a man who had seen him through his academic journey by compromising certain rules to allow him to proceed with his studies.

Taking to his social media accounts to break the news, Khalwale shared a warming message about his late former high school principal for understanding his struggles with poverty.

“Very sad that Gaylord Avedi, my high school principal for both ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels at Musingu & Kakamega High Schools is dead.

He understood that my mother’s chang’aa brewery would not afford me a pair of shoes, so he allowed me to attend school barefoot. RIP great man,” wrote Khalwale on his social media pages.

The late Avendi succumbed to cancer at Agah Khan hospital, Kisumu.

He became the principal of Musingu High School, later Kakamega and Musingu schools before rising to become Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Co-operative Development and Energy.

He previously worked at Vihiga County where he served as the chief of staff to former Governor Moses Akaranga.

The former senator is known as a man who prides himself as a son of a local liquor brewer who beat odds to become a doctor of medicine.

The doctor-cum politician evolved to become one of the country’s well-known leaders after serving as Ikolomani MP for two terms and later Kakamega Senator for one term before going for the gubernatorial seat unsuccessfully.

With his sorry economic history, Khalwale has established himself as a man any child from a disadvantaged family will envy.

As he looks forward to being the Kakamega Governor in the 2022 General Elections, it’s no doubt that death has snatched a person who prided himself for having raised a man to a stature of Khalwale.
