Mrs Kitili revealed that she was diagnosed with this condition, hypothyroidism in 2015 after having their daughter. She added that depression and weight gain were her biggest worries.
“A lifestyle change, as well as proper medications, has helped me lose 30kgs from 110 kgs to 80kgs. From the DM’s I have received weight issues and depression are the most common issues my thyroid warriors are dealing with.
Thank God that I was hypothyroid. 4 years down the line, I have been able to control my thyroid levels. I am happier and healthier.
Depression and severe weight gain were my biggest concern. I was from 95kgs from 69kgs. This was followed by episodes of depression. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in 2015 immediately after I had my daughter. I was experiencing almost all symptoms of hypothyroidism,” she said.
For those that are not aware of hypothyroidism, this is when your body doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormones. It commonly affects people over the age of 60 but can begin at any age. It’s normally discovered through a routine blood test or after symptoms develop.
Some of the symptoms include; muscle stiffness, aches, and tenderness, dry skin, feeling cold, hoarseness, pain and stiffness in your joints, dry, thinning hair, elevated blood cholesterol, slowed heart rate, fertility difficulties or menstrual changes, pain and stiffness in your joints and constipation.
There are only three ways of treating the hypothyroidism which include; surgical removal, radiation therapy and prescribed medication.
