Matiang’i Showers Mutyambai With Praise as Kenya Commemorates Dusit Attack

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i Wednesday heaped praise on Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, during the Annual Security Review and Planning Conference, for his exemplary performance since assuming office in 2019.

This as the country somberly marks the one year anniversary since the 2019 Dusit D2 complex attack by Alshabaab terrorists, who continue to reign terror on Kenyans.

The terrifying ambush by the millitants claimed 21 lives, with dozens others sustaining serious injuries. One of those injured, Noel Kidaliza, succumbed to bullet wound complications early January, after enduring a whole year of agony from bullet wounds complications.

Speaking during the security stakeholders forum in Mombasa, Matiang’i lauded Mutyambai for promptly settling into office and producing a resounding impact within the country so far, with the security status having improved by far in comparison to the previous year.

The tough talking CS hailed the IG for maintaining a firm stand on matters of national security and restoring sanity in the matatu industry.

Matiang’i was especially impressed by the low number of deaths recorded in the December 2019 festive season, owing to road accidents.

Despite the strides made by the National Police Service in improving transport safety and eliminating petty criminals, terrorism still haunts the country, with over 20 people having died in 2020 alone from Alshabaab attacks on Kenyan soil.

These include children, teachers, and Americans who were murdered in different attacks carried out in Garissa, Wajir, and Lamu counties in a span of two weeks.

Kenyans were especially apprehensive while going about their business on Wednesday, since the Somalia based terror group is notorious for launching attacks during commemoration days.

The 2019 Jan. 15 attack on the Dusit complex was carried out as the country commemorated the death of over 100 KDF soldiers who died in the horrific El-Adde attack, on the same date in 2016, on an army base in Somalia.
