5 Unconvincing Things Oguna Said in Live Standoff With Miguna on JKLive

Kenyans were Wednesday night treated to 45 minutes of live drama as embattled lawyer Miguna Miguna took to Citizen TV’s JKL segment to vent over his recent travel frustrations, and confront the government head-on through a televised call with government spokesman Cyrus Oguna.

What the retired colonel had hoped to be a face-saving scenario for the government, however, backfired terribly, as the deported politician shot down comment after comment from Oguna.

Here are five explanations from the government spokesman on Miguna’s predicament that did not quite sink well with Kenyans.

Miguna’s passport issue

Probed by host Jeff Koinange on the issue of the government withholding the troubled politician’s Kenyan passport, Oguna stuck to his earlier Wednesday statement in which he advised Miguna to present himself at any Kenyan embassy abroad for passport services.

However, this contradicts the government’s Tuesday statement promising to abide by court orders on Miguna’s unconditional return to Kenya.

One of the orders issued by the court to the government was that the state should promptly return the lawyer’s passport, not that he should apply for one afresh.

“The court order did not say I should go anywhere to apply for the passport, the court order said “return his passport”, they are supposed to comply,” Miguna noted in the interview.

The applicability of Miguna’s red alert

According to Oguna, the red alert issued against Miguna flagged him as an unruly passenger who should not be allowed to travel to African countries.

This raised eyebrows among Kenyans who wondered why Miguna was only flagged in Africa destined flights, yet he is able to travel to Europe and the US without any hitches.

This, according to netizens, is a shady move by the Kenyan government in petty efforts to frustrate the fearless Jubilee critic.

Who issued the red alert in the first place

The former army man also had a difficult time explaining the origin of the red alert against Miguna.

Avoiding addressing the issue of whether it was an order by Cabinet or his own doing, Oguna generally stated that the alert was issued by the Kenyan government in June 2018.

Political analysts, however, are of the opinion that Miguna’s predicament is the brainchild of a few powerful people in government who have a personal score to settle with the former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate.

The JKIA categorization issue

According to Oguna, Miguna’s unruly behaviour puts the prestigious status of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at jeopardy.

This was a statement that was promptly shot down by Miguna, who wondered why he is able to access airports of an even higher rating that the JKIA such as the JFK Airport in New York, the Charles De Gaulle Airport in France, amongst others.

Miguna’s return conditions

In the interview, Oguna insisted that Miguna’s would be able to travel to the country once he obtained a passport.

However, even if the lawyer manages to obtain a Kenyan passport, will he really manage to secure a Kenyan flight with the government red alert still in place?

A lot of things just do not add up.
