Calls For Uhuru’s Retirement Intensifies as Ruto Allied Team Converge in Nyeri

Calls to have President Uhuru Kenyatta retire from active politics after his second term comes to an end in 2022 has intensified.

Speaking on Tuesday at Mathira in Nyeri County during the burial of MP Rigathi Gachgua’s mother, leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto, insisted that the president was going to retire despite calls by some leaders to have him run for the Prime Minister’s position.

Led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, the Tanga-tanga team, who had accompanied William Ruto to the burial, observed that those who purport to be speaking on behalf of the president should be ignored until the time Uhuru publicly declares his stand over the matter.

While making direct reference to former Jubilee vice-chair David Murathe’s recent remarks, Kuria urged Kandara MP Alice Wahome not to expect any response from Uhuru concerning Murathe’s statements.

Just like in the past where the president never responded to Kuria’s remarks (made under the influence), the MP observed the same was going to happen to Murathe, who recently claimed that Uhuru was too young to retire from politics.

“I am President Uhuru’s MP and there is nobody who knows the president more than I do. I want to assure you that Murathe’s statements do not reflect that of the president. He was talking under the influence of alcohol,” remarked Kuria.

” I want to assure you that the president is a gentleman and in 2022, he is going home. Take it from the authority of his member of parliament. Unless he talks for himself, then don’t take anything from street drunkards,” added Kuria amid laughter from the mourners.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is one of the notable Tanga tanga voices in Nyeri county who are pro-Ruto. Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu was the only MPĀ  from the region who did not attend the burial ceremony.

Ngunjiri has been so vocal against William Ruto’s 2022 presidency and has been one of the founding members of Kieleweke group, which is a rival team made to counter Tanga tanga.
