KDF Kills 4 Al Shabaab Terrorists in Failed Lamu Attack

Four Al Shabaab terrorists have been killed following a Sunday morning attack at Manda military air strip used by Kenya and US forces in Lamu County.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Spokesman Colonel Paul Njuguna confirmed that four terrorists’ bodies have so far been found following the attack that occurred at 5.30.

Njuguna added that the Al-Shabaab militants were successfully repulsed and there is no casualties on Kenyan, US side.

“This (Sunday) morning at around 5:30 am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed.The airstrip is safe.” KDF said in a tweet.

He said the plume of smoke seen in photos circulating on social media arose from a fire that broke out during the unsuccessful attempt to breach the Manda Air Strip by the militants adding that it destroyed some fuel tanks.

Reports indicate that the militants came from Hindi area and disconnected power before launching the attack.

Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia had earlier confirmed the incident saying that the militants invaded the camp at around 4 am.

“It’s true. There is an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Manda-Mahogoni Naval base. KDF are currently dealing with the criminals who invaded the camp since 4 am today, ” he said.
