Manchester City Loanee Set to Leave Norwich City after Nightmare Spell

Middlesbrough want to take Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts on loan for the rest of the season, manager Jonathan Woodgate has confirmed.

Currently, on loan at Norwich, Roberts has failed to impress at Carrow Road, and has been restricted to just 24 minutes of Premier League action this season, with the last of his three top-flight cameos coming on October 5.

His only other outing came in the Carabao Cup defeat by League Two side Crawley last August.

“Let’s be honest Patrick was the fourth choice on the winger position and it could be we can do some business with him in the next hours or days,” Norwich boss Daniel Farke said.

With the January transfer window allowing for Roberts to be recalled, it seems that City will exercise that option and look to send the Englishman out on loan to the Championship for the second half of the season.

And in pole position are Middlesbrough, where manager Woodgate was asked about the chances of signing Roberts this month.

“He’s been linked, and he’s a very good player, a very, very talented player,” Woodgate admitted.

“Let’s see if we can get something done. Nothing is done yet, if it gets done, we’ll let you know, but he’s a player I like.

“Let’s wait and see. I don’t want to say anything on it at the minute because it’s a long way to go. But he’s a player I like,” he added.

Roberts impressed during a two-year loan spell at Celtic after joining City from Fulham in 2015. He was sent to Girona last season, but his campaign was disrupted by injury.
