Mourinho Pokes Holes in Spurs Defence Ahead of Southampton Match

Jose Mourinho has suggested that part of Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive woes are because his players are too short.

No side has kept fewer clean sheets in the Premier League than Tottenham this season, with only bottom side Norwich keeping as few. Moreover, since José Mourinho took charge, no Premier League side has conceded more goals in all competitions than Spurs.

Tottenham looked defensively frail against Norwich City on Saturday when Mourinho’s side gifted the Canaries both of their goals following defensive lapses.

And he claims he has addressed Tottenham’s early problems of conceding goals from corners as he highlights the fact that Brighton were able to score with a header from a free-kick on Boxing Day.

Adam Webster had given the visitors a richly deserved lead, heading in from Pascal Gross’ right-wing delivery towards the end of the first half.

Spurs will travel to the south coast this afternoon looking to get their quest for a top-four finish back on track.

“We play so well, we create so much. In the beginning, we were conceding lots of goals on corners, we stopped that.

“We conceded the other day against Brighton from a free-kick. But there are things in football that are very difficult to control,” Mourinho said.

“When I am small and you are taller than me by 15cm there are things in football that are impossible. But we have to improve, we concede too many goals and it is very frustrating,” he added.
