A sombre mood on Wednesday morning engulfed Kabonyony area of Eldama Ravine in Baringo county after five people reportedly lost their lives following an early morning grisly road accident.
The accident, according to reports, occurred along Kabunyony- Poror road, Eldama Ravine after a private vehicle lost control and veered off the road before hitting a ditch.
The victims are said to have been coming from new year cross over-party before their journey was suddenly cut short.
While confirming the incident, Eldama Ravine OCPD Rashid Hassan said that the three out of the five occupants of the vehicle died on the spot while two others perished on their way to the hospital.
Rashid called upon road users to be cautious while on the road especially during this festive season.
The accident comes in the wake of numerous attempts by the National Transport and Safety Authority, NTSA to curb road accidents, especially during the December holidays.
Two weeks ago, NTSA Director General, George Njao, announced that the agency was going to work closely with the police to help reduce road fatalities by intensifying road safety public education campaigns and putting in place evidence-based enforcement interventions.
According to reports from the authority, a total of 13 road users lost their lives in different roads across the country for the two days of December 17 and 18 last year.
On the eve of Christmas, two families in Busia lost five members of their family in another grisly road accident along Mumias-Butere road. They were part of a group of 10 occupants of a Toyota Wish travelling home for Christmas holiday.
