According to witnesses Salim was driving a saloon car from Timboni Watamu when two motor vehicles cornered him near the junction of Dabaso while on his way home.

Speculations are rife that it might have been an extrajudicial killing.

“It’s an extrajudicial killing. I can say without fear about it but I cannot say so and so did it,” father to the 27-year -old deceased, Salim Unda said.

He also intimated that his son had been arrested earlier but not charged in court on similar charges of being associated with terrorism.

“He disappeared for 6 months before we saw him again.”

The father added.

The same day that he was shot the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had warned American air carriers to “exercise caution” when flying over Kenyan airspace, citing possible attacks by extremists.

In an advisory directed to civilian airliners and all operators of US-registered aircraft issued last week, the agency said,  “Those persons are advised to exercise caution when flying into, out of, within, or over the territory and airspace of Kenya East of 40 degrees East longitude at altitudes below fl260 due to the possibility of extremist/militant activity.”

FAA said it will review the advisory by February 26, 2020.
