Senior University Officials Killed Vice Chancellor, Says MPs

Mourners at the burial of have hinted that the death of former Masinde Muliro Vice-Chancellor was not circumstantial.

Speaking at his burial in Siaya county, a section of legislators including Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Hon Olago claimed that the death of the former VC was just like that of Justice Otieno Odek.

A section of the university council also claimed that senior officials were at his back because he stood in their way as they attempted to embezzle university funds.

They said that the Profesor lived in fear ever since his term as the Vice-chancellor ended.

Otiende Amollo eulogised the deceased as a close friend with whom they consulted on legal and academic affairs.

“These past few months, professor Otieno spend a lot of time engaging with the EACC on issues allegedly of corruption. These were issues that were created so that he could be charged with corruption,” Said Otiende.

The legislator also faulted university officials who intend on making public universities to be tribal institutions.

“You want to make a university a community institution instead of an academic institution. Masinde Muliro would never have had a better Vice-chancellor like professor Fredrick Otieno,” he added.

Masinde Muliro’s former vice-chancellor died on December 17 at Tophill Hospital in Eldoret.

The Don had suffered a stroke at his house in Kisumu where workers found him unconscious.
