Ruto Demands Decency and Respect From Raila

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday launched an angry attack at ODM leader Raila Odinga over the Building Bridges (BBI) report.

This followed remarks by the latter, who beseeched Kenyans to exercise patience over the implementation of the recommendations contained in the heavily politicized document.

“We want to thank Kenyans for standing with us against all odds. It will take time for us to get where we want to be, but we are on track,” Raila had said.

But according to the deputy head of state, Raila, who in partnership with President Uhuru Kenyatta initiated the BBI undertaking, is stalling the actualization of the recommendations given by Yusuf Haji’s team, for his personal gain.

“Boss, the last time I checked Kenya was the collective business of the 47m of us. When did it become yours, for the rest of us to be patient with you, as you decide what is good for us!” The DP posited in reaction to an article on Raila’s utterances.

Yaani sasa imefika hapo (has it now come to this?) Please a little decency & respect is not much to ask of you…” the irritated politician continued in a Twitter rant.

Before the revelation of the BBI report containments, it had been highly speculated that the removal of the candidates’ age cap would be proposed by the BBI team in favour of Raila, who many expect to be on the 2022 ballot.

This was, however, not the case.

Factions that had earlier opposed the BBI immediately shifted sides after the report publicization, including Ruto who now wants the recommendations implemented as soon as possible.

A Raila 2022 presidential candidature would badly hurt Ruto’s similar aspirations, pundits believe.

Although it has already been more than a month since the report was handed over to Uhuru and Raila, no significant action has been taken on it, apart from the two leaders announcing the extension of the BBI taskforce’s term.
