Kenyans Ruin Christmas for Matiang’i by Revisiting the Ruaraka Land Scandal

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i Thursday joined Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on the KOT chopping board as Netizens poked questions into the almost forgotten Ruaraka Land Scandal.

Matiang’i was among the top government officials implicated in the Ksh1.5 billion saga, and Kenyans now want to know why investigations into the case seem to have stalled.

The controversial deal which saw the Ministry of Education release a parcel of land in Ruaraka, where two schools were built, was struck at the time Matiang’i was at the helm of the education docket.

Kenyans, using #Ruaraka and #ODPPExposed expressed their disappointment at the government for carrying out selective prosecutions, wondering why some individuals seem to be above the law of the land.

According to agitated citizens, Matiang’i, being a super cabinet Secretary, has bullied investigative bodies away from the case, deeming himself untouchable.

Some opined that the government has been hesitant to close the case since it involves a chain of top government officials.

Ruaraka High School and Drive-In Primary had been constructed on the controversial 13.5-acre piece of land which was handed over to businessman Francis Mburu.

Mburu had filed a case with the National Lands Commission claiming that the government had forcefully taken away the parcel of land from him in 1984.

In 2018, the Senate approved the investigation of Matiang’i and Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.

Nothing has come off the case so far, however.
