Fatal Accident Along the Eldoret-Kitale Road Involving a Bus & Vehicle Carrying Sheep

A fatal accident has been reported at Kipsonge bridge in Nangili along the Eldoret-Kitale road. It’s said to have been involving a Sabatia bus and a vehicle carrying sheep.

K24 reports that nine people on Thursday evening(December 26) have been confirmed dead following the accident and several others injured.

The minibus was headed to Matunda from Luanda in Vihiga County, when it smashed against the Eldoret-bound matatu in the 3:40pm incident.

The driver of the minibus, the tout, a passenger and two occupants of the matatu died on the spot, whereas four others died at the Likuyani Sub-County Hospital, where they had been taken for treatment, police said.

Also on board in the matatu were six goats that died.

On 23rd December transport along the Mai Mahiu-Narok Highway was paralyzed after members of the Maasai community blocked the road to protest the killing of their herds of sheep.

32 sheep were killed by the speeding truck in an accident near Satellite trading center 10kms from Mai Mahiu town. The truck driver was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Senior police officers had to engage the community leaders to open the blocked road which has caused a major traffic snarl-up stretching for kilometers.

Owing to the heavy traffic that snarls up roads during the festive season, the police stepped up their game and revealed the National Police Service (NPS) has put up enhanced measures to monitor traffic situation across the country.

The Police Air wing are reportedly patrolling the country giving air support to officers on the ground.

Meanwhile, motorists and commuters were left stranded around this Christmas season following crackdowns by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials as well as traffic police officers.

More than 50 unroadworthy vehicles have been impounded.
