Arsenal is considering the decision to recall young French center back William Saliba from Saint Etienne. The youngster was signed last summer for a fee of 30 million pounds.
He was initially planned to spent the whole of this season at the club but with a defensive crisis looming at the Emirates, Arsenal could recall him in January.
Rob Holding has not fully recovered from a knee injury he suffered last year in December while Hector Bellerin continues to be in and out of the treatment room with niggling injuries.
Meanwhile, Shkodran Mustafi has only featured once in the league this season amid poor form leaving the Gunners with just three dependable center backs; David Luiz, Calum Chambers, and Sokratis.
Arsenal has kept just three clean sheets in the league this season which has left them in 11th position on the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta was appointed last week to replace the sacked Unai Emery as head coach and will take charge of his first match against Bournemouth on Thursday.
The Spaniard is understood to be the one desperate to recall Saliba as he seeks to instill his philosophy on the Arsenal squad as early as possible.
He has already had two training sessions with the squad as he seeks to achieve the seemingly impossible task of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League next season.
