Real Madrid Captain Slams VAR

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has slammed the VAR after his side was denied two penalties against Barcelona in the El Classico on Wednesday evening at the Nou Camp.

Despite dominating the match, Madrid settled for a point in the barren draw against their arch-rivals. Madrid had two penalty appeals turned down in the first half. In the first incident, Raphael Varane suffered a high challenge from Clement Lenglet and in the second one he was pulled by Ivan Rakitic as Madrid took a corner.

The referee ignored both calls and the VAR didn’t review the incidents either and Barcelona got away with what looked like solid penalty claims from Zinedine Zidane’s men.

Speaking after the match, the Spain national team captain was critical of the officiating and the VAR in particular for not awarding the two penalties but went ahead to pour cold water on the whole scenario saying it was all down to bad luck.

“We saw them at the break and they look pretty clear. They’re both penalties, but we can’t change that now. VAR is here to help. It’s bad luck. On another day, it’ll be our turn to have a penalty that they don’t check,” he said.
