Obado Wins Big With Latest Court Ruling in Sharon’s Murder Case

Migori Governor Okoth Obado heaved a sigh of relief following the verdict delivered by the High Court.

Obado was a happy man after the judicial institution ruled in his favour in the murder case of former Rongo student Sharon Otieno.

The court barred Sharon’s Otieno’s family lawyer, George Wajackoya, from representing the deceased in the trial.

The decision came after the governor filed an application a month ago to have Wajackoya kicked out.

According to Obado, the lawyer had private information that could be leaked to the prosecution.

He further insisted that his continued involvement in the matter would affect the constitutional status of a free and fair hearing.

The embattled county boss reiterated that Wajackoya once manipulated him while in police custody.

Obado articulated that the legal practitioner visited him at Gigiri police station and assured him there was no conflict of interest in the case.

“He intimated to me that he had done a lot of consultancy work with the office of the DPP and the DCI.

“In this manner, he showed me conformity between himself and the two offices and I was assured that indeed he had good knowledge in criminal law practice. He further affirmed that the two offices cleared him to represent me,” read a part of the court papers.

The leader who is the main suspect in the case, commented that he was shocked when he found out that the advocate was not among the lawyers representing him in court.

During a different court session, Obado realised that the legal advisor had jumped ship to represent Sharon and the family.

In addition, the Migori governor pointed out that he felt cheated by Wajackoya as he had revealed a lot of intimate details before the incident.

“I also reasonably believe that the advocate’s representation of the victims is aimed at advancing a particular mischief against me since there is a glaring conflict of interest on his part,” remarked the ODM party member.
