Martha Karua Ready to Support King Kaka in Court

NARC Kenya party Leader Martha Karua on Tuesday pledged to support embattled Genge artist King Kaka against a lawsuit threat issued by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Taking to her social media account to respond to a concern raised by one of her followers, the former Gichugu MP said she was ready to offer any support if needed.

When asked whether she can represent King Kaka in court, the former presidential candidate tweeted: “Let us mobilize for his defence fund @bonifacemwangi But I am available to assist should it be necessary.”

Karua and Waiguru were Kirinyaga County gubernatorial candidates in the 2017 General Elections with the latter trouncing the former.

The two had protracted court battle over the polls but Waiguru won the case.

The developments come barely a day after the Kirinyaga Governor issued four demands to the Genge artist over his music composition dubbed  “Wanjinga Nyinyi”, which castigates elected leaders for failing to deliver their promises to Kenyans.

In the piece of art, King Kaka mentions Waiguru’s name and highlights an instance where the former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Devolution and  Planning allegedly bought a pen for Ksh8000, an amount that, he says,  is 400 times the street value.

As a result, Waiguru has ordered the artist to pull down the song in all his social media accounts including Youtube and also tender his apology in writing.

Through Kiragu Wathuta & Company Advocates, Waiguru gave the rapper 48 hours to retract the song and give an unconditional commitment not to release any song defaming her in future.

According to the Governor, the song has occasioned “grave, irreparable and permanent damage” to her reputation.

The Governor also accuses King Kaka of tarnishing her name to increase his popularity and profits.

However, even as the Governor threatens a legal suit against the rapper, a section of Kenyans have slammed her for the move with some legal professionals promising to defend King Kaka in the corridors of Justice.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdulahi on Tuesday emphasized his willingness to represent the rapper in court against anyone who will be taking a legal action over the lyrics.

On Tuesday the City Lawyer tweeted: “I said and I repeat..I will give legal representation to @RabbitTheKing against ANYONE who sues him for the lyric #Wajinganyiyi.

I’m of the considered view that no one amongst the ruling elites or the masses was defamed. UGLY, CRASS and LEWD commentaries on society are PRIVILEGED,” he tweeted.

In a similar move Lawyer Nelson Havi tweeted: “Due to public demand, I confirm my availability and willingness to act for him, as #WaiguruSuesKingKaka.

Let the Governor know that the ill conceived suit will be defended strenuously at her expense and costs. It is obvious how this will end. Once more, #IstandWithKingKaka.”
