Vertonghen Strikes at Death as Spurs Down Wolves at Molineux

Jan Vertonghen scored a stoppage winner as Tottenham overcame Wolves 2-1 at Molineux Stadium on Sunday afternoon to move within three points of Champions League places.

Tottenham had taken an early lead through Lucas Moura who beat Rui Patricio with a stunning strike in the 7th minute after Heung-Min Son’s initial effort had been saved. Adama Traore drew the hosts’ level with a stunning strike in the second half before the Belgian defender sealed the win in stoppage time.

Wolves upped their game after going down raiding for an equalizer. Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota came close to finding the equalizer while Harry Kane and Eric Dier whose shot came off the upright had Spurs chances. The first half ended in Spurs’ favor.

Both teams started the second half strongly, Jimenez forced a save from Spurs keeper Gazzaniga while Dele Alli saw his short from a Moura cross narrowly missed the target with Patricio at full stretch.

Wolves forward Adama Traore got the equalizer for the hosts in the 66th minute in spectacular fashion. The forward raced towards Tottenham goal before smashing the roof of the net from the edge of the area, Gazzaniga could do little to stop the thunderbolt.

The equalizer blew the tie open as both teams went all out in search of more goals. and just as it looked like the game would end even, Vertonghen scored the winner in stoppage. The defender headed home from a Christian Eriksen’s corner delivery. The win moves Spurs to fifth with 26 points, three shy of fourth-placed Chelsea.
