Italian Giants Eyeing Arsenal Midfielder

Italian giants Napoli are reportedly eyeing Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira and are keen on making a move during the January transfer window.

The Uruguayan is unsettled at the Emirates as he has been reduced to a bit-part player this campaign. He featured sparingly under Unai Emery and it was believed that the Spanish tactician’s departure would make the workaholic midfielder shelve his desire to quit the club.

He is however still determined to quit the Emirates and return to Serie with Napoli, AC Milan and AS Roma said to be keen on pricing him away from the Emirates in January.

Napoli appointed Gennaro Gattuso as their new coach on Wednesday following Carlo Ancelotti’s dismissal on Tuesday and reports in Italy indicate that the former AC Milan tactician has made Torreira’s signing a priority. The midfielder will command a signing fee in the region of 25 million pounds.

Toreira joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018 from Sampdoria. He was particularly impressive for Uruguay at the 2018 World Cup in Russia drawing interest from several European clubs. The Gunners, however, managed to convince him to move to the Emirates. He was impressive during his first season with the north Londoners but the current campaign has proved difficult for the diminutive midfielder.
