Sofapaka Snap-Up Highly-Rated Youngster

Kenyan Premier League side, Sofapaka has begun its mid-season business by acquiring the services of highly-rated midfielder Wisdom Yana straight from St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale.

The attacking midfielder recently sat for his final exams at the footballing powerhouse and has now joined the John Baraza coached side after impressing during trials.

“He is a top young player. We knew nothing about him but after a few days in training he showed his quality and we are happy to have him here. He is still young and we will slowly integrate him into the game. He has the talent and we will slowly work on other aspects like physicality,” Baraza told Opera News.

Yana was part of the Saints team that won the 2019 national U19 title in Kisumu. It’s however during the 2018 Copa Coca-Cola U16 African championship in Nakuru that he stole the show with some electrifying performance for St. Anthony’s. His partnership with Lucas Maina in the middle of the park steered Kenya to the African title and also earned him a call-up to the Kenya U17 team.

Coach Baraza adds that they will be keen not to put pressure on the youngster and will give him time to slowly get used to the demands of the Kenyan Premier League.

“We will not give him pressure. He is young he needs time and we are going to give him that. KPL is a very demanding league and so we have to ensure that we provide the best environment for him to grow,” he added.

The youngster is already looking forward to making his bow for the club and understands the huge task ahead of him.

“I want to thank Sofapaka for this opportunity. It’s a dream come true for me and I am looking forward to making my debut for the club. I know playing in KPL is not easy and I am ready to give my best for the club,” he told Opera News.
