The duo is suspected to have organized a group of youth to accompany Governor Sonko to Milimani law courts where he pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption.

Appearing before Magistrate Douglas Ogoti on Monday, December 9, Governor Sonko and 10 other suspects had their charges read for them even as a heavy contingent of police officers surrounded the court’s precincts.

The Governor has been indicted in the theft of up to Ksh357 million shillings received through the irregular awards of tenders and kick-backs arising thereof.

Friday, December 6, police nabbed Sonko in Voi shortly after Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered his arrest.

The Governor is reported to have been escaping arrest when the officers pounced on him after several attempts by his bodyguards to let him go failed.

A fracas would ensue at an Airstrip in Voi after Governor Sonko refused to board a police chopper sent to airlift him to Nairobi.

Police officers were forced to handcuff Sonko before being bundled into the chopper.
