More Misery For Arsenal As They Lose To Brighton At Home

Arsenal stretched their winless run in all competitions to eight matches following a disappointing 1-2 loss at home to Brighton. It was the first match at home for interim manager Freddie Ljungberg and he got off to the worst possible start.

Despite playing at home, Arsenal was nowhere near good enough in the first half and should have gone behind as early as in the 10th minute but Bernd leno did well to keep out a goal-bound shot from Mooy.

The visitors got the goal they deserved ten minutes from half time when a corner was half-cleared and Adam Webster was on hand to blast the ball into the back of the net. The Arsenal players looked scared.

Nicholas Pepe was introduced in the second half for the poor Joe Willock and he immediately caused the Brighton defense problems. It was his drive that resulted in a corner that Mesut Ozil played into Alexandre Lacazette and the striker flicked the ball in for the equalizer.

Minutes later, Arsenal had the ball in the net but VAR disallowed it as David Luiz was offside while heading the ball from a Granit Xhaka freekick.

Brighton upped the tempo and was duly rewarded with 10 minutes to go when a perfectly weighted ball was turned in by Neal Maupay with David Luiz just next to him. They held on for the famous win.
